A matter
of respect
Sustainability lived for generations
Fulfilling the highest standards has always been our guiding principle at the Posthotel Achenkirch. This naturally includes a commitment to a more environmentally conscious way of living. Many steps towards more sustainable operations may seem small, yet they make a significant difference. We want to show that sustainability is not about sacrificing comfort, but about enriching life.
Regional and seasonal delights
We source milk, butter, veal, lamb and beef, as well as speck from neighbouring Alpine Farms. Our hotel’s golf course is home to our own fallow deer herd. Local farmers supply our cheese, and parts of our honey come from our own beehives - which also help protect regional agriculture. Fresh trout and char come straight from Lake Achensee, just a few metres away. Many delicacies are made in-house: selected jams, pasta, and our own signature bread. We also collaborate with the nearby Adler mill bakery. Our TCM restaurant primarily uses regional ingredients too. The crystal-clear drinking water comes directly from a nearby mountain spring.
Beauty comes from within
Natural cosmetics from “alpienne” (climate-neutral production) provide beauty and wellbeing with a clear conscience.
We must understand that we need nature - not the other way around.
Energy and more
Since 2012, the energy for our heating and hot water has come from a sustainable woodchip biomass plant. A photovoltaic system also supplies a significant share of our electricity. By optimising our central heating and replacing a whirlpool system, we have further reduced CO2 emissions. We use environmentally friendly cleaning and laundry products, and you may opt out of daily room cleaning. Our staff also live sustainably in low-energy buildings.
Taking a stand
We are supporters of the Alliance for Development and Climate. In 2023, the Alliance for Ethics in Business nominated us for the Austrian SDG Award - the country’s most significant sustainability recognition. We also participate in the EU-funded ETSM 2030 project, which aims to strengthen sustainability in tourism businesses.
