From frosty to festive
Ideas for a varied winter’s day
Even when the skis can stay in the cellar for a day, our winter offers a whole host of possibilities that extend far beyond just a few days. Hike along quiet paths through untouched snow, reward yourself after a challenging ski tour with an exhilarating descent through deep powder, or rediscover carefree childhood joy while tobogganing and ice-skating. The towns of the region also reveal their own special magic in winter: enjoy the atmosphere in the old towns and Christmas markets, for instance in Innsbruck and Salzburg.
Hearing nothing but the crunch of snow and seeing nothing but white expanses and an azure sky: away from the hustle and bustle, winter hiking lets you become one with nature and with yourself. Over 150 km of cleared winter hiking paths circle Lake Achensee ,inviting you to enjoy the magic of the cold season in a gentle way. As a snowshoe hiker in deep snow, you leave your mark on the area. Snowshoes can be hired directly from us.
Between the Karwendel and Rofan mountains you will find routes for leisurely explorers as well as ambitious ski tourers. The ascents lead through snowy forests and across sunny slopes, while the surrounding peaks offer impressive panoramic views. Once you reach the top, wonderful descents over wide snowy fields await, with views of wintry Lake Achensee.
Ice skating is one of the most popular winter activities in the Achental valley. The various ice rinks offer plenty of space for elegant pirouettes or a relaxed glide across the ice. In Achenkirch and at the Atoll Achensee leisure centre , an ice rink with the option of Bavarian curling is waiting.
Awaken your inner child with a carefree day of tobogganing, just like in the good old days. Around the Posthotel Achenkirch you will find five natural toboggan runs: the Achenkirch run (3.5 km), the Maurach run (1.5 km), the Pertisau run (1.3 km), the Zwölferkopf run in Pertisau (4.8 km) and the Steinberg run (0.8 km). A special highlight: night tobogganing every Wednesday evening on the illuminated Achenkirch run. Toboggans and bob sledges are available free of charge from us.
If you feel like a change from sporting activities, numerous sights in the area await: the Tiroler Steinöl Adventure Museum, the Achensee brewery, the Achensee museum world for Tyrolean traditions and crafts, the Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens, and of course nearby Innsbruck as well as the cultural cities of Salzburg and Munich. We are happy to give you more tips when you arrive.
