Sixenhof local history museum
Go back to the 19th century for a few hours. The Sixenhof originates from the 14th century, but was rebuilt following an arson attack in 1810. It is a typical Tirolean “Einhof”, i.e. farmhouse and stables are under one roof. The Sixenhof is nowadays open to visitors and gives a fascinating idea of the way of life, handicrafts and peasant customs of that time.
Boat trips on Lake Achensee
Enjoy the sun and warm breeze on a boat trip over the crystal-clear, emerald-green waters of the Achensee, surrounded by the mountains. There are not only offer standard round trips on the lake, but also regular special events such as the winter brunch on the MS Achensee or Christmas on the Lake.
The Achensee steam railway
Pure nostalgia: Over 100 years old, the cogwheel steam engines connect Jenbach and Lake Achensee. The trip through the Tirolean mountain landscape is an exciting experience for adults and children alike – its highest point is nearly 1,000 metres above sea level and the steepest incline is 16%! The train brings its passengers a distance of some 7 km direct to the boat landing stage.
The Skyglider up on the Gschöllkopf provides plenty of thrills: this attraction, in the form of an eagle, reaches speeds of over 80 km/h over a distance of 600 metres while dropping 200 metres. A wild adventure for adrenalin junkies!
Vitalberg: Tirolean stone oil
Experience from close up how the famous Tirolean stone oil has been produced for over 100 years from solid oil shale. The “Black Gold of the Achensee” is regarded as an effective remedy for joint complaints and rheumatism. The Martin gallery takes you on an exciting journey through the decades as you learn all about the production and history of the stone oil.
See for yourself on a guided tour through the private brewery how “Achenseebier” is actually made – from the purest Karwendel mountain water, hops, wheat and barley malt. You will of course also have the opportunity to taste these fine beers at the end of the tour.
Karwendel nature park
The Posthotel Achenkirch is located in the midst of the Karwendel nature park which, with a surface area of 920 square kilometres, is the largest contiguous nature reserve in the northern Limestone Alps. Enjoy wonderful hikes and walks through the unspoilt nature as well as the peaceful Tirolean mountain scenery, far away from the hubbub of everyday life. A visit to one of the welcoming mountain huts is the perfect way to enjoy the mountain panorama.
Achensee museum world
The museum village at Eben on Lake Achensee tells visitors all about Tirolean customs, handicrafts and the way of life of the people of the Achen Valley in a historical presentation. An exciting journey through time that lets you feel as if you were actually there.
A 5-summit climbing tour
A very special fixed-rope route that leads 2 km across practically the entire Rofan range. You climb five central summits, with the Achensee always in view. Gentle walking alternates with more demanding climbing. The tour altogether takes between 6 and 8 hours.
