Those who love winter sports, enjoy snow, fresh air and exercising outdoors. When it comes to winter sports, most people think of skiing, groomed pistes and lifts. However, there are also fantastic snowshoeing and tobogganing routes around Lake Achensee in Tyrol. Want to try something new or well-known? This is your opportunity!

Guided snowshoe walks at an altitude of 1,200 meters plus more

Snowshoeing allows you to experience nature at a slower pace and take in the sound of crunching snow beneath your feet whilst engaging the body in exercise. When it comes to our guided snowshoe walks, our Posthotel walking guide will be happy to show you the proper technique so that you can discover the prettiest routes around Lake Achensee. Group snowshoe walks are usually offered twice a week and start at 10:30 a.m. Here we reveal our 3 favourite snowshoeing routes around Lake Achensee.

Posthotel snowshoe walks provide magnificent views of the mountains around Lake Achensee.

1) Snowshoe walk to Adlerhorst

This walk using the so-called ‘bear paws’ will take you to an altitude of 1,230 metres. From here, you will be able to enjoy amazing views of the Karwendel Mountains. This snowshoe tour lasts approx. 2 hours and is of easy difficulty, so beginners and experienced snowshoers can enjoy this walk together.

2) Snowshoe walk to Bründlalm

This second guided snowshoe route takes you down into the Unterautal Valley and back up to the Bründlalm at around 1,213 metres. With a route of around 10 km in length and 3 hours of walking time, this snowshoe walk is a little more challenging. The difficulty level is still graded as easy, meaning that there are no special requirements for taking part in this snowshoe walk.

3) Snowshoe walk to Zöhreralm

Follow your desire on your own to heights of around 1,334 metres and visit the Posthotel Achenkirch alpine pasture. This advanced snowshoe walk of approx. 6 km takes you to the Hochunnütz summit in the Rofan Mountains. Those wishing to take part should allow 3 hours to complete this walk and bring a camera.

Tobogganing in the Christlum ski resort

Tobogganing in the Christlum ski resort is our little secret tip for you! These toboggan runs are generally well-known, but only a few of them have been explored until now, and at Christlum ski resort these runs are most often frequented by skiers and boarders.

The toboggan run spans 3 km and starts at the Christlum summit station at 1,295 metres, which you can reach by purchasing a single ticket for €7. Those wanting to tackle the climb on foot should allow around 1:15 hours. Night tobogganing on Wednesday evenings is particularly worth trying: The piste is lit up, the lifts operate until 9 p.m. and there is top-class live music at the Christlum Alm restaurant. On all other days the run is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Good to know: Toboggan hire is free for guests staying at the Posthotel Achenkirch!
